Enslaved

Trapped. Coldness. Poverty.

That is Slavery.

Draping over the upper torso are thinly-sliced plastic corrugated board strips that resemble the visible rib cage of slaves in poverty, its chain-like structure evoking the sense of being caged. Chicken bones that make up the neck piece further depict the famine they face. The slightly red hue of copper and the sensation of cold metal against skin tells a story of hardship, blood and tears.

The way the corrugated plastic strips flow and embrace the upper torso mimics that of our rib cage.

A piece of bone and copper wire are made to act as a toggle clasp to maintain homogeneity of the neck piece.
